My Philosophy

  • There is great power in gentleness.

  • If it hurts, don’t do it (with a few exceptions.)

  • Stress makes everything worse.

  • Most people don’t know how to relax, but it is a skill that can be learned

I have always considered my patients to be my best teachers and I have listened carefully to what they were telling me. One of the biggest challenges I faced was in treating patients with Fibromyalgia, (known by several other names before 1990). I was perplexed that, after doing very little exercise, they would come back for the next session complaining about how sore they were. I initially struggled with treatment approaches, frequently making them feel worse, not better. I then discovered that sometimes less is more.  With experience I became kinder and gentler in the care I provided my patients.

I left my full time job in March 2015 at the age of 65 with the intention of maintaining a part-time private practice. Ironically in September of 2015, after experiencing episodes of fatigue, malaise and mental fogging, I myself was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and autoimmune disease (Sjogren’s and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis).  This experience has given me an even better understanding of what my patients are going through.  I have to admit that I found myself resistant to following my own advice! But I am working on it.

I am now fully retired, but I still enjoy seeing a few private patients in the comfort and privacy of my home. Let me warn you - I am not your typical Physical Therapist! As a true child of the 60’s, I am very informal. Being from Kentucky, I might be barefoot. But I promise to genuinely care about you and will do my very best to help you feel better.

I see you one on one, taking as much time as you need, never having to turn you over to someone with less experience and training.  By keeping my overhead low I do not have to be concerned with "productivity" or profitability.
